Discover The Best Places to Visit in Udaipur

    Read Time: 3 Minutes

Ranked second best city in the world and the best city in Asia at the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards, 2024, Udaipur is an unforgettable city with a majestic past; a city of ancient palaces and temples, where the streets are lined with age-old myths and bustling bazaars. Here are our top 5 recommendations of the best places to visit in Udaipur:

    City Palace

The sprawling façade of City Palace is the perfect backdrop for selfie souvenirs of your stay in Udaipur: The Venice of the East. Located on the banks of Lake Pichola, City Palace is one of the best places to visit in Udaipur with family, friends and loved ones. Step inside its imposing gateways and a hidden world of ancient Rajput majesty unfolds before your eyes. From structured gardens and waterbodies to sun-kissed courtyards and glittering crystal interiors. Composed of eleven separate palaces, City Palace is a surprisingly coherent albeit labyrinthine design that we recommend you allow at least three hours to enjoy.

    Jagdish Temple

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver, Jagdish temple is one of the best places to visit in Udaipur to experience aarti prayers by fire. These happen at regular intervals from 4:30 a.m. until lunchtime and again from 5:30 p.m. into the evening. Laid out in accordance with Vastushastra, the science of auspicious architecture and design, Jagdish temple is a fantastic structure spanning three floors of open air halls, with huge carved pillars and beautiful views over the city. Standing tall and proud in central Udaipur, it is believed this ornate temple can be seen from up to 150 metres away.

    Ambrai Ghat

Also located on the bank of Lake Pichola, Ambrai Ghat has in recent years become a popular spot for young couples to sit and enjoy sunset views over the lake and City Palace. Just behind the ghat, a small temple and gardens provide further respite from the bustling city.

    Shilpgram

Shilpgram showcases authentic Rajasthani folk arts and crafts in a traditional village setting that spans almost 300,000 square metres just outside central Udaipur. From fabrics and pottery to painting, dance and music, the village attracts large numbers of international and domestic visitors interested in the cultural heritage of this region. While the static arts are displayed in traditional mud hut structures, the open air amphitheatre presents performances for audiences of up to 8,000 people per day.

    Saheliyon ki Bari

This Mughal style garden is a fantastic example of Mughal design, replete with fountains, lawns and marble elephant statues. Also known as ‘The Garden of the Maidens’, Saheliyon ki Bari was originally built by Rana Sangram Singh for his wife and her entourage of hand maidens to enjoy their leisure time while the men of the Court attended to politics.

Spanning 1,13,000 square metres of lush gardens on the bank of Lake Pichola, Trident, Udaipur offers beautiful views of City Palace. It is a wonderful destination for a relaxing break with loved ones, a romantic occasion or destination weddings in Udaipur.
